I do love this trend. Maybe it's the simple twist on the classic style, or because it works year round, but I find myself drawn to it over and over, and yes, I own several of these styles :) Which ones are your favorites? Closed toe booties, open toe booties, platform sandals or chunky heels? More links here, here, here and here. Happy shopping.
Are you as excited as I am to get the boots out? I thought this article was worth a repost. Find out which boots can stay and which should go. And what you might be missing :) My personal favorite is the block heel like the ones below.
If you're looking for something a little more casual and comfortable, I just spotted these in a magazine. I cannot justify buying yet another pair of sneaker boots so I figured sharing them with all of you was the next best thing :)
I love jeans as much as the next girl. But also, I love cargos. Really love. As in I may or may not have a pair in every color of the rainbow. I have noticed recently when reviewing clients' closets that not everyone appears to share my love of the cargo. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume its because you forgot about them or, like many, think you have no idea how to wear them. Here's my tip: wear them just like you would your favorite jeans!!!! See some below.
Here's a snap of how I wore a pair recently. I wear those gray sneakers with just about everything, but I especially love them with cargos. Happy shopping!
Chokers and collar necklaces are huge right now and I love it. Check out some of these favorites below. Pair it with some boyfriend jeans, a crisp white button down and booties, or swap it out for those statement earrings you were going to wear to your friends wedding. Check out Bauble Bar for some great, inexpensive options.
If you're anything like me, shorts are your least favorite thing to wear. It doesn't matter how many FlyWheel classes I take, or how many lunges, bridges, squats I do, I will never love myself in shorts. That being said, come summer time, I want to wear them! They keep you cooler and look great with so many different shoes. Here are some suggestions on how to pick the right pair:
1. Shorts with wider waistbands will help a tummy look flatter.
2. Look for darker colors to minimize your lower half.
3. Stick to looser fabrics.
Below are some of my favorites for the summer:
1. Spend as much as you can afford on the basics, they're worth it.
2. Not everything has to match, do something unexpected.
3. Develop a signature style or look- if there's a particular look that works well for you, stick with it by all means and own it.
4. Make sure you have the right undergarments.
5. Wear trends in an age appropriate way.
6. Make sure your proportions are balanced: Pair wide-legged leg pants with a more form fitting top.
Details on each of the above to follow, stay tuned!
Let me preface this by noting that what I am about to say is reflective of my own personal style tastes and preferences. I recognize that not everyone will agree and that style is very much about you as a person. At the end of the day, always do what makes you comfortable. But when it comes to jewelry, I say less is more. My personal preference is either big earrings or a statement necklace, but definitely not both. I always err on the side of keeping one of those things simple and understated, or sometimes forgoing one all together. See the images below and decide for yourself.
See what I mean? Just kidding.
The women above all look beautiful, but in each case, I would have said go with either the necklace OR the earrings, but not both. It's too much and becomes distracting to the eye. You don't know where to look plus it draws attention away from their natural beauty rather than enhancing it. Now compare to the below images. Look how much nicer the choker looks on it's own. And the simple elegance of Olivia Wilde's necklace, with her hair up, speaks for itself. She looks classy and timeless.
Invest in denim. I get asked this question a lot- which items are worth spending money on and which ones are not? In my opinion, it's worth spending the money on denim. If you are anything like me, you live in your jeans. The money you spend will buy you great fit and quality plus long-lasting style. A few of my favorite brands are DL1961, Paige and Blank. In my opinion, totally worth the money.
Horizontal stripes are ok. I worked with a client recently who was having a hard time with stripes. I will tell you what I told her- horizontal stripes are ok. They don't make you look heavier, or add unnecessary weight. The trick is to keep them on the smaller, narrow side. And don't wear them on your widest body part. If that means your thighs, don't wear striped pants. If it's your shoulders/chest, minimize the effect by pairing the stripes with a sweater or vest. In the images below, the top two pics with wider stripes are not as flattering on the wearer as the thinner stripes below.
