BEFORE AND AFTER
This fun client was on a mission to make over her closet. She spent a lot of time on her own getting rid of all the things that didn't make her happy anymore and then I stepped in. She wanted to stay true to her minimalist aesthetic but also needed someone to help her step outside her comfort zone. I helped her navigate the overwhelming department stores and we found some amazing things that she's totally loving, all while staying on budget and keeping it classic instead of trendy.
This client in NYC had a super small closet that she was having a hard time keeping organized. We spent hours going through all of her clothes, putting outfits together and finding new ways to wear all of the amazing pieces that she had. Then we got rid of the ill-fitting and outdated, added some closet dividers and voila, she has a closet that she's "obsessed" with and went so far as to overhaul all her other closets using the same system. I'm so proud :)
We just did a major update on this guys wardrobe. Read more here. I think you can immediately see the difference. On the left, the jeans are too short (socks should not be showing) and the shirt is too big on him. Plus the tennis sneakers make it a pretty outdated look. We bought him some slim fit shirts (this Robert Graham shirt is really fun for a date night), slim fit washed out black jeans, and new Vans. He's still true to his style, just in a more current way.
The guy on the left has made some mistakes that I see a lot of men make. The biggest one being the baggy jeans. A lot of men buy regular or even relaxed fit jeans. But most men carry their weight in the middle which means that even if they aren't super thin or in great shape they can still probably wear a slim fit jean. It's definitely worth a try, they can make a huge difference in your appearance and make you look slimmer overall. I added an updated T shirt and sneaker and this guy is good to go.
Jeans and a tee shirt are a staple for most moms on the go. But the look on this woman can be amped up in subtle ways that will really take her style to the next level. The length and style on the jean shorts is a bit outdated and unflattering for her great figure and the sandals are too dressy and set the wrong tone for this look.
On the right I've given her the same look, but with much more current styles. Graphic print tees are huge right now. As are metallics and animal prints. Mirrored lenses on sunglasses are also very in. If you want a heel with your shorts, these espadrille wedges will add some nice length to your leg while maintaining comfort and still looking casual.
I love what she's trying to accomplish here with the casual spring dress and another layer for a little warmth on those cool spring days but I think we can outfit her in something a little more updated, age appropriate and figure flattering.
Color is big for spring and summer but something brighter than the yellow she has on might do a better job of complimenting her complexion. Swapping out the poncho for a more youthful moto jacket will make a big difference. A few other simple changes, like pops of color and adding a metallic, will really help lighten up the whole look and make it feel fresh and current.
